DRAWING THE MIND
Neural Networks and the Emergence of Complexity
Curated by Andrea Kantrowitz

My abstract drawings and paintings emerge from an engagement with my materials and are concerned with neither narrative or image. Shape, form, and line are the subjects of my work. They do not describe but contain within their curving boundaries a complexity of thought and feeling that celebrate presence in the fluidity of time.

The pressure and buoyancy of the unfolding shape is what propels the work forward. I wrangle with its circumstances pushing the forms out onto the edges of the surface and pulling them into the borders of the picture plane, while layering and embedding many attempts to get it right onto the same surface. The resulting works have a feeling of air and water a material that can be squeezed or blown through space and time.

I live and work in Brooklyn. My work has been reviewed in Art in America, The Brooklyn Rail, The New York Times and can be found in a number of public and private collections including the Colby College Museum of Art, Pfizer, Wellington Management, The New York Public Library, and The Museum of Modern Art Library.
